Frequently Asked Questions

Here, you can find out the answers to many questions that students and parents often ask about the choir program at KHS.

1. How do I join choir??

Easy answer: Come by the Choral Building and talk to one of the directors, and we'll get you all set up to audition.  Auditions for the 2009-2010 school year will take place on May 19 and 20 after school in the Choral Building. Be sure to come by at least a week prior to this date to get your audition materials and to sign up for an audition time. For those students who move to Klein during the school year, be sure to tell your counselor that you want to take choir. He or she will then contact the directors to arrange an audition. While previous choir and music-reading experience are helpful, they're not necessary to join choir.  You'll be placed in the choir class that the directors feel will match your level of skills.

2. What kinds of things do you do in choir??

Lots of singing!!  We generally sing 4 concerts per year (Fall, Holiday, UIL, and Pop Show), plus a few extra some years.  There are many opportunities to showcase our choral talent throughout the year, plus many other opportunities to show off individual accomplishments (Solo & Ensemble, Region Choir, Pop Show solos).  Each choir will go on a trip during the school year.  Every year the choirs go to either San Antonio or Dallas, and Chorale makes an out-of-state trip every other year.  In recent years, Chorale has gone to New York City and Washington, D.C.  Chamber Choir presents "run-out" concerts (i.e. we take the choir into the community) for various private parties, luncheons and other organizational functions, especially during the December holiday season.

A typical day in the life of a choir member consists of

a. Come in and turn your attendance magnet

b. Get your folder and go to your seat

c. Warm up and listen to announcements by directors

d. Dive into the music we are preparing for our upcoming performance

e. Have fun with friends!!

3. What kinds of people are in choir??

We have all sorts of people – just take a look at our photos page, and see if you know anyone.  We have cheerleaders, drama fanatics, band and orchestra members, Standleaders, football/baseball/basketball/soccer players, any kind of athlete you can think of, computer “geeks,” ROTC members, country music fans, Chess players, Anime club members.  Anyone you can think of, we’ve got at least one of ‘em here! FYI-choir is one of the largest organizations at Klein High School.

4. What if I can’t fit it into my schedule??

“There’s always room for JELLO!” Where there’s a will, there’s a way.  If you want to join our fantastic organization, come talk to us, and more importantly, go talk to your counselor.  About 98% of people who enter choir as a freshman go all four years in our organization.  (1% moved out of the country, and the other 1% wish they would have stayed!)

5. How do I know what voice part I to sing??

When you audition with the directors, they will tell you what voice part (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) they think you will feel most comfortable singing. The higher voice parts are soprano (women) and tenor (men), while the lower parts are alto (women) and bass (men).

6. What are the different choirs??

Our program has 5 different choirs.

Die Rosensänger is the beginning/intermediate girls’ choir.

A Cappella Choir is the advanced,(mostly) freshman mixed (guys and girls) choir.

Liederkranz is the advanced (mostly sophomore) girls' choir.

Chorale is the advanced mixed choir made up of junior and senior girls and sophomore through senior guys.

Chamber Choir sings vocal jazz and is made up of select Chorale members. Students who are selected for Chamber Choir must also be enrolled in Chorale.
